Méribel set to host the 2023 Ski World Championships
Méribel is preparing to host the 2023 Ski World Championships, the world’s biggest skiing event after the Winter Olympics.
The Roc de Fer slope will be welcoming the women’s events. Spanning just over 1.5 miles, it hosted the women’s downhill skiing stages at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, which saw Swedish skier Pernilla Wiberg and Italian skier Deborah Compagnoni claim victory.

Preserved alpine architecture
Méribel is loved for its alpine architecture, created in part by architects Charlotte Perriand and Christian Durupt. Local wood and stone are the core materials, along with lauze tiles on the gabled rooftops and a limit applied to the height of each chalet. These buildings are harmoniously integrated into their environment, and the preserved architectural aesthetic contributes to the resort’s overall charm.

The main feature of Méribel is its ski area, nestled in the heart of the 3 Vallées. This makes it ideal for skiers, who come to explore the 372 miles of pistes – a total of 339 slopes with more than 85% of the ski area located above 5,900 feet of elevation. Those looking to ski in the sun all day long can simply head to the other resorts in the 3 Vallées with the Vallée des Belleville (Val Thorens, Les Menuires) in the southwest and Courchevel-La Tania in the northeast. The 3 Vallées continues to be a record-breaking ski area with a total of 19 Michelin stars spread across 11 gourmet restaurants, including L’Ekrin in Méribel. Foodies can also head to Courchevel, Val Thorens and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville to indulge their taste buds.
